Noé Chapsal

The son of a carpenter and a special needs teacher, I grew up in Pontcharra, in Isère, surrounded by lakes, mountains, and four brothers and sisters. At around the age of 11, I discovered breaking during a youth club class, at a time when art and theatre weren’t even part of my imagination. In this art form, I found friends, a sense of power and expression that launched me into a new life. This culture forces you to develop your own style and path, then put it to the test in the competitive arena of battles. Surprisingly, the shy teenager that I was found his way there.

From battle to battle, in 2014 I won the French solo championship title (Red Bull BC One France), as well as several international group competitions. The semblance of fame brought by these awards led me to travel and discover hip-hop dance in different countries, where I developed a comprehensive and critical perspective on the art form. Around the age of 20, meeting a teacher specialising in the deconstruction of hip-hop movement transformed my relationship with the body, opening me up to a deconstruction of my dance and a more multifaceted aesthetic. I began my career as a performer six years ago, and have since been involved in a series of creative projects with hip-hop and contemporary dance companies such as S’poart, Chriki’z, Mellina Boubetra, Ayaghma, Chey Jurado and Naïf Production.

Having been a spontaneous creator for years, the creation of Les Corps jetés in 2023 is a way of giving a name to a collection of isolated desires. The company’s first production, Viscum, received rave reviews at the Avignon Festival, as well as awards such as the Special Jury Prize at Sobanova and the XL Prize at the RIDCC in Rotterdam, leading to a national tour and paving the way for future creative projects. We’ll see where this takes us.
