Hello,
My name is שי†שאול† (Shay Shaul).
From birth, I have been one of two, and ever since that first race out of the womb I have never tolerated losing—at the risk of not wanting to play anymore. With a broken elbow and torn ligaments, I was born on August 31st, 2001. In the race out of the womb, I came second—or last, depending on how you see it…
Israel.
A Steiner education, a bit of guitar, singing, trumpet, and years and years of acrobatic gymnastics—competition after competition.
Through a desire to continue working with my body in a way other than obedience, I discovered circus. A circus where bodies are listened to, where bodies speak. My body speaks constantly—I am still learning to listen to it, to not resent it when it is injured.
From the door of high school to the Rosny-sous-Bois circus school. An obvious choice based only on curiosity. An unknown that became my partner, sounds that became a language, a circus that became my life. A home that turns into an apartment, a garage, a caravan.
In 2022, Châlons-en-Champagne, the Centre National des Arts du Cirque (CNAC).
My artistic research always places bodies at the center—finding their paths, their voices. Two bodies becoming one, blending, unblending, interlocking. A relationship of love bordering on obsession with the circus techniques of partner acrobatics and hand balance. I still wonder how to take care of my body when it is the one taking care of me.
