Alexandre Boucher
Trained in history and epistemology, he began his professional career in education (2011–2015).
Interested in the cultural, social and political role of the performing arts, he changed career direction in 2015, joining two national circus centres in succession as a communications and public relations officer: Le Cirque Jules Verne – National Centre for Circus and Street Arts in Amiens (2015–2017); L’Azimut, National Centre for Circus in Île-de-France (2018–2019). In this role, he played an active part in defining, implementing and embedding the artistic and cultural projects of each organisation within their local communities. In line with each region’s specific context, he co-develops various circus outreach projects, focusing on raising awareness, fostering engagement and/or encouraging participation in the creative process.
At the same time (2016–2018), he co-led the ‘Cirque en Action(s)’ research project on artistic and cultural action in the circus, supported by the professional network Territoires de cirque. He also undertakes university teaching assignments on cultural outreach and regional projects.
Building on these professional experiences, he became involved in the development of the circus and street arts sectors by joining ARTCENA – the national centre for circus, street and theatre arts – as a project manager for street arts and circus (2019–2021). He provided expert advice and support within the resource centre to public sector stakeholders in the creative arts and to artistic teams in both sectors.
In 2021, he was asked to contribute his experience to the project for the future National Circus Centre in Le Mans – Le Plongeoir. He defined and implemented the regional project, supported the development of artistic activities and helped to establish the organisation’s structure. He is now deputy director of Le Plongeoir.
