Stefan Kinsman

Stefan Kinsman is an associate artist at Sirque – Pôle National Cirque in Nexon from 2019 to 2026. He is also an associate research artist at the L'Avant-Scène theatre in Cognac from 2023 to 2026. He develops his work in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

Born in Switzerland to a family of European and American heritage, he grew up in Costa Rica. He collaborated with several circus troupes in Central America as a juggler and acrobat before moving to Europe to seek training to refine his artistic expression. After five years of circus studies in Europe, notably at the CNAC, Stefan began working with several professional companies.

Since 2015, he has created and performed in SANTA MADERA and SOMNIUM with Juan Ignacio Tula, two shows created under the guidance of Mathurin Bolze and Séverine Chavrier, as part of a residency with the MPTA Company.

Following his training, he performed in the show HIP 127 by Cie Jérôme Thomas, directed by Martin Palisse and Jérôme Thomas. He has also performed in theatrical productions such as EGMONT (2017), directed by Séverine Chavrier and produced by Laurence Equilbey, and HAMLET UNLIMITED (2018), directed by Yves Noël Genod.

In 2019, Stefan Kinsman founded the company La Frontera to pursue his own projects. With two creations based on the character of John Henry (In a Tent With John and Searching For John), Stefan began a research project entitled Towards a Somatic Approach to the Wheel, through which he questions the traditional approach to technique in circus arts. As a result of this research, La Frontera became a subsidized company in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in 2024, and subsequently in 2025 by the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs).
