Barely out of the womb, in the midst of a snowstorm in peaceful Quebec City, Garance began her nomadic life, in the shadow of her theatrical father, moving from one backstage area to another. Thus, at just one month old, she boarded a plane to Europe and was one of the last to fly over the Berlin Wall before its demolition. Born to a “free-spirited” yet rational mother, a math teacher, Garance welcomed a little brother 18 months later—a chubby little Buddha who would slowly transform into a tall, slender Japanese asparagus. Garance has always dreamed of being on stage to explore different roles and champion human folly and the right to joy for all! She dabbled in “everything”: piano, taekwondo, funky jazz, volleyball, theater, photography, and then the circus at age 11 at the École de Cirque de Québec…
Without realizing it, this marked the beginning of a remarkable journey that started with balancing a stick on her chin, then moved on to the unicycle, juggling, the joy of taking on the responsibility of carrying others, and the trampoline. Then came love at first sight with the tightrope, which inspired her to cross the ocean in the hope of meeting a passionate mentor! Once accepted into the National School of Circus Arts in Rosny-sous-Bois, Garance met Karine Noël, a dance teacher who helped her explore the infinite textures of this apparatus. There, she also encountered an aerial frame for the first time, accompanied by three beautiful French women, full of character.
And so this new team, “Les Quat' fers en l’air,” was formed, riding a wave of enthusiasm all the way through to the end of their program at the National Center for Circus Arts in Châlons-en-Champagne.
Garance finds meaning in the performing arts by experiencing works such as Secret by Joahn Le Guillerm, Le sort du dedans by the Baro d’Evel company, De nos jours by Ivan Mosjoukine, and La Tragédie comique by Yves Hunstad. She believes in the power of performance to evoke emotions without pretension, to infuse her daily life with the absurd, or to rediscover solemnity in silence. It is in this context that this young woman sees her professional circus career beginning, her head brimming with aspirations!
