Born in Hawassa, in southern Ethiopia, at the end of October 2000, Msgun discovered acrobatics at the age of 15 at an amateur school. At 17, he took part in professional gymnastics competitions.
The school system did not suit him. He dreamt of devoting himself exclusively to the circus. He wanted to follow in the footsteps of his fellow acrobats. As a self-taught performer, he practised juggling hats and discovered the Cyr wheel. Thanks to YouTube, he drew inspiration from Dereje Dagne, Marica Marinoni, Stefan Kinsman and Charlie Wheeller.
His first professional experience with the Kiai company for the show ‘Cross’ brought him to France.
He discovered the possibility of studying circus arts, so he decided to stay. He lives in Brittany and works as a market gardener. In 2022, he trained at the Lyon Circus School as a hat juggler. He worked with Olivier Burleau, developing artistic and technical skills, notably choreographic composition based on the iconography of the hat, and his creativity.
Later, he decided to return to the Cyr wheel, not because he had lost interest in the hat, but because he wanted to develop the repertoire he had already begun to expand on his own. In 2023, he will join the 38th intake at the CNAC as a Cyr wheel artist. There, he developed a repertoire based primarily on back movements, the anchor point and the transition of the body to the wheel. He explored transitions from one manoeuvre to another, as well as the fluidity and continuous transformation of the movements he choreographed.
At the same time, Msgun plays the acoustic guitar, drawing inspiration in particular from Chet Atkins, Merle Travis and Tommy Emmanuel. In the future, he envisages himself as a performer, with a Cyr wheel, hats and a guitar.
