Alma Nour Yixin Hourriez
Born in Marseille on 7 November 2003, in Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse.
A city suspended above the ground, facing the sea, with limestone hills and dazzling skies.
Firmly clinging to my umbilical cord, I had no intention of losing it on my first pirouette.
What a wonderful piece of apparatus, the rope.
This discipline weaves together the threads of a story that resembles life itself.
Climbing up, climbing down, pulling, letting go, falling, letting go, attempting, trying, failing, tumbling, succeeding, stopping, learning and always carrying on.
And above all, always starting again and ending up on the ground.
So, I held on tight.
To the sheets of the sails pushed by the Mistral.
To the reins, to connect with the horses’ movements.
To my ski poles, to keep my balance and give me courage as I glide.
To dreams of old-fashioned, demanding choreographies in synchronised swimming.
To the pen, to capture the images that appear before me on the drawing board.
As a child, I co-wrote and edited Croucrou, a children’s book.
As a child, I was a solo vocalist in the song TransHumance, performed by the *Théâtre du Centaure* in Marseille in 2013.
I nurture this connection to my childhood by teaching aerial acrobatics to young people.
From Marseille, I gave up my comfortable ambitions in mathematics and moved to Châlons-en-Champagne to take my A-levels with a circus specialism at Lycée Bayen.
I moved down to Rosny-sous-Bois to attend ENACR (2021–2023),then back up to Châlons to attend CNAC (2023–2026) and to continue learning how to tell stories.
My influences: Rocky (the first film), monkeys, animals, Pina Bausch, Buster Keaton, Marie Molliens, Bill Viola, La Fontaine’s Fables, Pyt(hagore), Miyazaki, Romeo Castellucci, Jackie Chan, Wes Anderson, Monstrum Théâtre, Angelica Lidell…
