Excerpts FR - Pièces de cirque written by Christophe HuysmanChristophe Huysman / Thomas Cepitelli (2017)

Christophe Huysman's writing cannot be appreciated at a glance; you have to immerse yourself in his rehearsals, understand the humour of the sometimes-comical situations that he can make his characters play. One of the elements that best characterises his writing is the rhythm, far from going back and forth like a game of ping-pong: the sentences, sometimes composed of a few phrases, shout, stun, and explode. Sometimes they are cries of anger, but often they express a lot of joy, a lot of laughter.
It is between the words, through the physical presence of the acrobats, through their bodies that Christophe Huysman describes his poetic world, weaving the links that define the meaning of a play. Without really fully understanding his way of writing, Christophe Huysman manages to bring his text to life through the interplay of his actors or acrobats.

Revivals in the Cnac’s Repertory – A Radical Choice
Revivals, recreations and repertory are an important part of the Cnac’s programme. They are characteristic of the institution’s engagement with the circus profession, and demonstrate the faculty’s desire to preserve the history and memory of the circus arts. These revivals also favour the Cnac’s ambition to create a network and to help its students to develop their relationships with professionals.
A Specific Period of Work
Second year diploma students (Dnsp 2) recreate a collective show using the outline of the original show along with the artists or the company who put the original show together.
Three or four weeks are devoted to this pedagogical activity, directed by the creators of the show. It involves using specific skills such as:
- contributing to the stagrircus number,
- enriching the student’s knowledge of circus culture and other arts by engaging with a variety of artistic approaches and processes
- developing the student’s autonomy and his/her adaptability.
Gérard Fasoli.
